YOUR PRACTICAL BRIEFING
Mountain conditions change quickly; check lift and rail operations and always keep a lower-altitude alternative.
Rail can be efficient between major cities, while islands, villages and mountains may need ferries or private transfers.
Late spring and early autumn can work well for many cities, but Alpine and northern destinations need their own seasonal plans. Check the exact dates and local weather advice before departure.
Check passport validity, visas, health requirements, insurance, baggage, currency, mobile connectivity, accessibility and official advisories for every country and transit point.
For entry requirements, consult the relevant government immigration or embassy website and the IATA Travel Centre ↗. For attractions, consult official venue or park websites for prices, access and permits.
